Sun Safety

When sunny, we ask that parents apply sun cream before school.

Earrings and Jewellery Policy

As a Community School we must adhere to guidance from the Essex County Council Corporate Health & Safety Team.  We have been instructed to advise parents/carers that we can no longer permit children to wear earrings during P.E. lessons, Forest School, sports activities (including after school sports clubs and sporting events at other schools) and swimming lessons.  It is no longer acceptable to tape over earrings during these activities. Essex County Council has made it quite clear that the school will be liable should any accident occur.

Staff are not permitted to take out or replace children’s earrings if they are unable to do so themselves. Whilst we are willing to guide children as to where to store their earrings during the sessions, staff cannot be held responsible for any losses.

We would advise that if children are having their ears pierced that they do this at the beginning of the summer holidays. Pupils should avoid wearing earrings on days when Forest School and P.E. lessons are planned or when they are participating in sporting events, including swimming lessons.

Can I also advise parents/carers that other than one pair of small plain silver or gold coloured stud earrings and a watch (if your child can tell the time) no further items of jewellery should be worn to school.

Lunch Time

Children may choose to have a free school lunch or to bring in a packed lunch.  Menus will be sent home each FRIDAY to be returned to school by 1.00pm WEDNESDAY of each week.

School DinnerMCj02334900000[1]s.

Our hot school dinners are provided by our own school kitchen.  They are healthy well-balanced meals which meet all the Government nutritional standards and are prepared each day from fresh ingredients.  There is also a vegetarian option available each day.

Every FRIDAY each child brings home a menu.  We ask that this is returned by the Wednesday morning preceding the week that you require hot dinners. School dinners are served in our main hall.  If the menu is not sent back into school by Wednesday, then unfortunately your child will be unable to have a school lunch the following week.

Sandwiches.

Children may also choose to bring in a packed lunch. We ask that you do not send in glass bottles or cans for drinks; we do not allow fizzy drinks of any kind including fizzy water. Plastic containers or cartons are much safer and easier for children to use.  Due to the risk of nut allergies we must also state that we do not allow nuts of any kind or any product that contains nuts e.g.Nutella.  Chipping Hill is a ‘Healthy School’ and so we also ask that children do not have sweets or chocolate bars of any kind in their lunchboxes (a Penguin or Club type biscuit is acceptable).  We ask that parents try to include pieces of fruit in their child’s lunch box.

Packed lunches will be eaten in the hall.  Where the weather allows, children will also be given the opportunity to picnic outside.
